Full Job Description

Purpose: Under the direction of the Medical Director of Pediatrics and the oversight of the supervising/assigned Physician, the Physician Assistant/Nurse Practitioner provides comprehensive pediatric care to Trillium Health patients. The scope of practice includes primary care delivery, education and health promotion, and collaboration with patients, families, and all Trillium Health staff. The ability to work as a member of a team is critical.

Detail of Key Job Responsibility Areas
1. Clinical Requirements
  • Develop an acceptable practice agreement with a collaborating physician at Trillium Health
    • Nurse Practitioner
      • If Nurse Practitioner has more than 3600 hours of qualifying NP experience, they can opt to the following:
        • Practice in accordance with a written practice agreement with a collaborating physician and have collaborative relationships with a qualified physician or a New York State Health Department licensed healthcare facility
      • Submits proof of the practice agreement with an appropriate physician, licensed to practice in New York State, to the State Education Department within 90 days of employment
  • Utilizes the Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice for The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Standards of Practice/Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains appropriate credentials to practice at Trillium Health
  • Follows recommended and required readings, lectures, case studies, and CME
2. Patients –
Pediatrics
  • Pediatric Primary Care: Performs histories and physicals, routine and urgent office visits, reviews laboratory and test results, and performs office procedures as experience, credentialing, and privileges allow.
  • Education & Promotion – provides health teaching and coaching to patients and families on diet, activity, hygiene, stress control, sexual health concerns, substance abuse, and disease prevention and illness management.
  • Collaborates with M.D./D.O providers, supervises clinical interventions provided by licensed nursing staff
  • Completes 50 hours a year of Continuing education activities, including pediatric primary care topics, but may also include topics of interest such as HIV/AIDS care and prevention, LGB health, Transgender health, opioid addiction management, sexual health, etc.
  • Performs regular peer reviews and focused chart reviews as indicated based on Agency policies
3. Miscellaneous

A. Adheres to the medical staff Rules and Regulations and Bylaws as well as other organizational policies

B. Requires the ability and commitment to respect and support inclusiveness and diversity, including but not limited to individuals of different backgrounds, cultures, races, ages, sexual orientations, gender identities or expressions, experiences, opinions, etc.

C. Requires individual demonstration of commitment to the One Trillium behaviors and business impacts and modeling them in the organization.

D. Responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of all patient, client, employee, protected, and proprietary information.

E. Employees are accountable for meeting their departments’ performance standards and must participate, as requested, in compliance audits, process improvement plans, and quality improvement plans.

F. Other specific duties as assigned.

Qualifications

M.S. degree as a nurse practitioner in a National League for Nursing (NLN)-accredited nursing school. Current licensure in New York State as a Registered Professional Nurse and current certification in New York State as a nurse practitioner. National certification by the American Nurses Association (ANA) (or other certifying body) as a nurse practitioner (pediatric or family). 5 years of pediatric experience, such as in a pediatric or family medicine practice, preferred.

M.S. degree in Physician Assistant studies and current certification in New York State as a Physician Assistant, along with establishing and maintaining national certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. 5 years of pediatric experience, such as in a pediatric or family medicine practice, preferred.

Some experience in community-based healthcare settings is preferred. An understanding of EMRs is helpful. The ability to demonstrate teamwork and effective interpersonal relations skills is imperative. Excellent written/oral communication and computer skills are required.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, sit, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. Occasionally the employee must stoop, bend and lift or move up to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
