Work Schedule:Monday – Friday, 9 hours between 7:00am and 4:00 pm, including a one hour lunch

Core Duties: The duties include, but are not limited to the following;

  • Provide a full range of Physician Assistant services in primary and specialty medical care within the limits of their training and privileges granted by the MTF (e.g., supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute, and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Technically direct and provide care for a variety of diseases and types of injuries (i.e., acute, chronic and minor trauma), and the skills to recognize emergency conditions in order to diagnose, prescribe for and treat diseases, disorders, and injuries, and refer the more complex cases and serious conditions to qualified medical personnel and perform designated treatment.
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide educational lectures and participate in in-service training to staff members.
  • Promote preventive care and health maintenance including annual physicals, positive health behaviors and self-care through both formal and individual education and counseling.
  • Prescribe in accordance with approved treatment protocols and the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee-approved medications and immunizations.
  • Identify a medical problem and determine appropriate action to meet the problem, including referral to a physician.
  • Perform specific diagnostic and therapeutic practices and procedures in accordance with scope of practice.
  • Establish collaborative rapport with physician, nurses and others in order to promote and facilitate primary care services.
  • Teach patients and family member’s healthy regimens and responsibility for achieving wellness.
  • Attend staff meetings to provide case discussion, continuing education, and continuous quality improvement

Additional Duties:

5.1. Performs medical record reviews and applies appropriate protocols and guidelines to determine medical needs. Maintains patient medical records in electronic format as well as hard copy as required.5.2. Section flexibility. Contract personnel may be required to work in other MTF duty sections. Contract personnel shall be flexible in rotating temporary or permanently moving into other duty sections upon notification of the COR. If moved into a new duty section, they will be required to undergo orientation to the new section.5.3. The contract provider shall assess medical care to assure its quality. All providers shall participate in a continual process of self-evaluation/peer reviews and strive for excellence in the clinic.5.4. The contract provider shall complete all administrative tasks associated with the clinical position in an accurate and timely manner.5.5. Provides trainee health support. Develops policies and procedures and prepares directives governing communicable disease, illness and injuries, preventive medicine, and occupational medicine. Services as liaison with federal, state, and local agencies in matters related to preventive medicine and occupational medicine. Determines recommendations on waivers of medical standards. Develops programs for medical support of contingency operations.5.6. Advises medical staff. Advises medical and dental staff on treatment of military personnel and preparation of patients for aeromedical evacuation. Provides medical advice and guidance to bioenvironmental engineering, military public health, physiological training, and others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Degree/Education: Graduation from a Physician Assistant Education Program accredited by the American Review Commission for Physician Asssitant Education or its predecessors, and acceptable tot the service-specific guidelines.
  • Certification: PAs must obtain initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) within 12 months of graduation. Civilian accessions must be certified prior to employment. PAs are required to maintain NCCPA certification. Certification is maintained by meeting NCCPA continuing medical education and re-examination requirements as outlined in the NCCPA recertification process.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years experience as a PA within the past 36 months.
  • Licensure: Active, unrestricted license from any state.
  • Life Support Certification: Possess current ARC or AHA BLS Healthcare Provider certification.
  • Security: Must possess ability to pass a Government background check/security clearance.
