A total of one (1), 1.0 FTE Advanced Practice Professional (either NP or PA) will be hired to fill this job opening.

Full Time Salary range: $125,605 – 193,013 / year

Responsibilities*

  • Primary role is provision of palliative care for oncology and hematology patients to optimize quality of life and mitigate suffering
  • Provide new visits in person and follow up visits through telehealth
  • Palliative care and symptom management to include pharmacological and non-pharmacological pain management methods, support for long-term side effects of chemotherapy, and support for complex psychosocial needs
  • Prescribing of opioids
  • Education and support to improve transition to hospice
  • Direct care and management of patients in the outpatient setting which includes: performing history and physical, development of differential diagnoses, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement a plan of care
  • Provide patient and family education, counseling and support,
  • Collaborate with and refer to other supportive care services
  • Provide education to nursing staff, students and the community
  • Cover for colleagues when needed
  • Participate in workshops, conferences or other CME activities pertaining to oncology or palliative care
  • Attend programmatic meetings or Cancer Center meetings

Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program. May also provide palliative care for non-oncology patients if needed.

Required Qualifications*

NP:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or Family Nurse Practitioner or Adult Nurse Practitioner or Acute Nurse Practitioner.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS
  • 2+ years of APP experience in palliative care or oncology

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
  • Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
  • State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
  • Current DEA registration required
  • AHA approved BLS
  • 2+ years of APP experience in palliative care or oncology

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours/week Shift: Day shift Location: Rogel Cancer Center (Primary). May also include Brighton Center for Specialty Care, West Ann Arbor or Northville Health Center if needed- Gold Team.

Modes of Work

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Physician Assistants of Michigan Medicine, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
