About us

We are looking for a NP, CNM, or PA to join our team as a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE). This physician-led company contracts with Monterey County to provide forensic examinations to survivors of sexual assault. The position is on-call and exams are performed at Natividad Medical Center in Salinas. Our company provides the required on-the-job training, a supportive and caring environment, and a flexible schedule. SEXUAL ASSAULT FORENSIC EXAMINER

PER DIEM/ON CALL

Summary of position:

The Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE), under the direction of the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) Medical Director and the Program Coordinator, provides sexual assault forensic exams on both victims and suspects. SAFEs follow the Monterey County SART Protocol when doing exams and are responsible for interviewing patients regarding their medical history and the history of the event, collecting evidence, photographing and documenting findings. SAFEs offer prophylaxis against sexually transmitted infections, emergency contraception, and referrals for medical and behavioral health concerns related to the assault. SAFEs work as part of the County’s SART multidisciplinary team (MDT). The MDT is comprised of the SAFE, law enforcement officer, a rape crisis advocate. Other members of the MDT that the SAFE may interact with include behavioral health professionals, child protective services personnel and members of the District Attorney’s office (Department of Justice).

This position is on-call. SAFEs are expected to respond to calls within 15-30 minutes and be prepared to perform examination within 1-2 hours. Exams occur at Natividad Medical Center.

This position provides an excellent opportunity to enhance medical, history taking, and documentation skills, in addition to learning about trauma-sensitive care and the collection and preservation of evidence. Training and on-going clinical support are provided.

Desired qualifications:

-At least one year of experience as a CNM, NP, or PA.

-Some knowledge of issues regarding behavioral health, trauma-informed care, and substance use/abuse.

-A background in women’s health and/or experience in the treatment and diagnosis of common sexually transmitted infections.

-An ability to communicate effectively and compassionately with patients and other members of the MDT.

Requirements:

-A valid and active California license as a CNM, NP, or PA.

-Successfully pass a pre-employment background check.

-Possess and maintain a valid Class C driver’s license.

-Must complete credentialing and privileging in sexual assault forensic exams at Natividad Medical Center within 6 months of hire.

Job Types: Part-time, Per diem

Pay: $20.00 – $100.00 per hour
