Full Job Description
Seeking a full-time APRN or PA to support our busy Genetics practice, located on the campus of Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. Mainly covers office patients but occasionaly may assist with weekday hospital consults.
SUMMARY: Under indirect supervision and working interdependently with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers, provides a broad range of clinical services following established policies and protocols. Performs a variety of functions and technical procedures necessary for, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, follow-up, and outcome evaluation. Assists physicians with clinical documentation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Obtains patients’ medical histories and performs physical examinations; documents all findings/information.
- Documents family trees and detailed genetic histories.
- Orders, reads, and evaluates laboratory reports and radiology studies.
- Charts all patient transactions in accordance with policies and procedures; writes orders and records progress notes that will be reviewed and countersigned by supervising physician.
- Develops plans of care based on patient assessment ensuring appropriate follow-up in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Communicates and works with medical staff to ensure coordinated efforts for the provision of high quality medical treatment and patient service.
- Triages and refers patients for further care based on severity of illness and symptoms.
- Utilizes written guidelines/protocol for clinical decision making and management.
- Demonstrates an awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights.
- Applies safety principles as identified by established policy.
- Participates in continuing education to continually improve skills and abilities and stay abreast of current technologies/practices.
- Ensures compliance with legal issues including but not limited to patient confidentiality and risk management; ensures compliance with JCAHO, federal, state, and local regulations.
- Exhibits a high degree of courtesy, tact, and poise when interacting with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adjusts to fluctuating peaks in patient flow, acuity, and other operational demands while maintaining quality.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing and current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Florida, required OR Graduate of an accredited physician assistant program and licensed by FL medical board.
- Current BLS certification, PALS certification required.
- Two to four years related experience or equivalent (PICU and/or CICU experience strongly preferred).
- Ability to understand and adhere to established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Demonstrated competence in reacting to and handling emergencies.
- Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy, and discipline.
- Strong charting/documentation skills.
