The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity formed by Mass General Brigham to deliver high quality, low cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. This work stems from Mass General Brigham’s unified system strategy to bring health care closer to patients while lowering total health care costs. The Medical Group provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, and urgent care, both digitally as well as at physical locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The group also offers outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion. We share the commitment to delivering a coordinated and comprehensive experience across all locations, ensuring the appropriate level of care is available to every patient across our care delivery sites. We are seeking a full time, 40-hour Physician Assistant to serve as first-assist three days per week (7:00am-4:00pm) in the Operating Room with our talented Orthopedic Surgery team at Holy Family Hospital (Methuen and Haverhill), Lawrence General, and Mass General Brigham (Salem, NH). This PA will also see patients two days per week in clinic at both of our locations (288 Groveland Street in Haverhill and 231 Sutton Street in North Andover) from 8:00am-5:00pm. Our team of surgeons specialize in general orthopedic surgery, hip and knee surgery, shoulder surgery, and sports medicine. The Physician Assistant will be responsible for:
- Providing care for the patient population in the outpatient setting, including collaboration with supervising surgeon in clinic, ordering and reviewing x-rays, performing complete histories and physical examinations on new, established, preop, and postop patients
- Ordering, interpreting, and evaluating laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Developing appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings
- Coordinating care along the patient’s entire surgical journey (preop, postop, and recovery/rehab)
- Optimizing patients prior to surgery and being first assist in the OR (assisting with wound closure and various tasks between cases such as post orders and case preparation)
- Rounding on and discharging surgeon’s inpatients and inpatient consults
- Prescribing medications and narcotics as necessary according to organizational and state/federal regulatory policies and procedures
- Initiating consultations and referrals for patients
- Assessing postop wounds and managing other needs such as DME, PT prescriptions, and medications
- Evaluating new elective referrals and follow-up patients from the ED or Ortho injury clinic
- Managing a high volume of patient calls, Patient Gateway messages, emails and completing all outpatient clinical forms (FMLA, insurance disability, hardship needs)
- Providing high quality and timely documentation of clinic visits, admission and progress notes, procedure notes, and e-mail/phone conversations
- Providing patient-family teaching
- On call duties as assigned (1-2 weeks per month)
- Other duties as assigned

Job Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, medical and/or surgical, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. - Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting.
- Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
- Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
- Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic, laboratory, and physical examination findings.
- Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
- Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries.
- Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.

- Skilled in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Ability to communicate clearly and establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public.
