Being a NP/PA in an academic medical setting allows you to work at the top of your license and to participate in the training of the next generation of physicians and physician assistants.
This position is within the Women’s Healthcare Specialists Clinic providing healthcare to women with obstetrical, gynecological and urogynecological needs.
POSITION INFORMATION: Provides obstetrical and gynecological care to women under the supervision of a Physician.
Essential Duties:
- Physician Assistance. Assists physician during the examination as needed.
- Sample Collection. Collects samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
- Information Gathering. Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.
- Patient Follow Up. Makes follow up patient appointments, or follows up on patient appointments. Answers routine questions from patients, family, etc.
- Data Collection. Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records.
- Medication Administration. Administers medication to patients.
- Collaboration. Collaborates with other healthcare professionals to provide efficient quality patient care. Evaluates and improves teaching and healthcare practices and recommends modifications.
- Patient Education. Provides educational information to patients, family, etc.
- Emergency Response. Responds to and intervenes in emergency situations such as anaphylaxis, hypoglycemia, hypotension, hemorrhage, respiratory distress, etc.
- Patient Assessment. Assesses and monitors patient response to procedures and treatments. Reports patient condition and reaction to tests, drugs, treatments, and any significant incidents to the physician.
- Specialized Testing. Performs specialized testing using physicianguided protocols.
- Diagnosis. Establishes diagnoses. Evaluates collected patient data and collaborates with the attending physician, consulting services, and extended healthcare team to form a diagnosis.
- Plan of Care. Establishes the plan of care for patients by evaluating all pertinent information and collaborating with healthcare team.
- Implementation of Care. Implements the plan of care by writing patient care orders when within the scope of the practice or by verbal order from the physician. Orders diagnostic tests and procedures, medication, consultations, workups, etc.
- As Needed. Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.
Qualifications:
Required Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing OR Master’s degree from accredited Physician Assistant program, AND:
- Must be licensed as a Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Clinical Nurse Specialist.

- Environmental: Clinic Environment. Exposure to ill patients, blood borne pathogens , infectious diseases
Certifications or Licenses:
Nurse Practitioner:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) license in State of Oklahoma AND
- Active board certification Nurse Practitioner
Physician Assistant:
- Active PA license in State of Oklahoma AND
- Active PA board certification
- Clinical Nurse Specialist:
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) license in state of Oklahoma AND
- Active CNS board certification
- Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and Clinical Nurse Specialists, must obtain the required licensure from the State of Oklahoma within 30 days after the offer of employment.
All Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, and Clinical Nurse Specialists applicants must have:
- Active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license or ability to apply for such license prior to or upon hire
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Advanced Life Support certifications. If relevant to practice area, Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Obtain within 90 days of employment in this position.
