Overview:

We are seeking a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to be an active clinician as a member of the on-site occupational and environmental medicine healthcare team. This position resides in the Health Services Division (HSD), Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESHQ) Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform pre-placement, voluntary, and mandatory periodic occupational surveillance physical examinations and Department of Transportation physical evaluations at the direction of the Medical Director or physician designee.

  • Evaluate and treat occupational and non-occupational illnesses, injuries, and adverse conditions, and administer treatment through medication, physiotherapy, and minor procedures.

  • Evaluate occupational injuries and illnesses, coordinate medical care, perform medical surveillance and other examinations, fit for work examinations, counsel and educate employees, organize and maintain medical records, and review test results.

  • Refer employees to an outside physician or health care institution for treatment that is outside the scope of ORNL services.

  • Appropriately stabilize/treat acute or serious injuries (e.g., with appropriate interventions such as injections, suture removal, splinting, dressing changes, etc.) or illnesses (e.g., heart attacks, seizures, fractures, concussions), and determine and arrange for the proper disposition of employees as to hospital, physician, home, or return to work.

  • Strive to maintain employee health at optimal levels, reduce absenteeism, reduce medical disabilities, and contain medical costs.

  • Recommend medical limitations and work restrictions to ensure that existing medical conditions are compatible with the workplace.

  • Discuss medical conditions with employees and inform them of the preventive or corrective actions necessary to maintain or improve these conditions.

  • Assess jobsite surveys and OSHA Form 300 logs and accident reports as needed.

  • Assist in the formulation and administration of company health programs.

  • Maintain strong dedication to the perpetuation of ORNL values and ethics.

  • Abide by the principles of Safe Conduct of Research (that is, ask questions, evaluate hazards in advance, voice safety concerns, and learn continuously) and the tenets of High Reliability Organizations.

  • Perform periodic on call duties from home or local area locations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PA candidates must hold a Master of Physician Assistant Studies or related field; NP candidates must hold a Master of Science in Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner degree.

  • A minimum of 4 years of clinical or related work experience

  • License to practice as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the state of Tennessee.

  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

  • Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Transportation examiner qualifications, ATLS, ACLS, BLS, and REAC/TS.

  • Must be competent to perform basic level EKG, diagnostic testing, and radiograph interpretations.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory.

  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4-6 years of relevant experience in acute care or emergency department setting.

Special Requirements:

  • Physical Requirements: Work involves various physical requirements and working conditions. As such, a pre-hire physical will be required after offer. Physical requirements include ability to perform duties in emergency situations and drills, climb stairs, and perform workplace walkthrough evaluations

  • Q or L clearance: This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a clearance from the Department of Energy. As such, this position is a Workplace Substance Abuse (WSAP) testing designated position. WSAP positions require passing a pre-placement drug test and participation in an ongoing random drug testing program.

  • Visa Sponsorship: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
