Job OverviewThe Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, or Psychiatric Physician Assistant will guide MCAW patients /clients on their journey to mental wellness. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner has advanced education and skills to handle greater responsibilities, and to serve as a mentor and provide oversight to other Nursing Staff.
Duties
- Provide Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner services as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Assessing patients’ health and fulfilling their needs through collaboration with Medical and Clinical Directors.
- Effective listening and adapting of communication style to individual patients.
- Issuing appropriate prescriptions and administering medication.
- Providing psychoeducation to patients and families.
- Informing Medical and Clinical Directors of any problems or discrepancies that might arise.
- Acquiring and reviewing patient histories, identifying abnormal conditions.
- Monitoring patients’ progress and keeping records of treatments and other medical events.
- Attending to any medical emergencies that might arise.
- Preparing patients for examinations and conducting routine procedures (measure blood pressure and temperature, administer injections etc.)
- Providing therapeutic treatments (mental health hygiene: sleep, appetite, substance use).
- Cultivating a climate of trust and compassion for the patients.
- Complying strictly with medical care regulations and safety standards.
- Collaborating effectively with team members of various specializations.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
