Job OverviewMedical City Children’s Orthopedics and Spine Specialists is a busy, full-service pediatric orthopedic and scoliosis practice with locations in Dallas, Arlington, Frisco, McKinney, and Flower Mound. We are seeking a full-time physician assistant to serve the Arlington clinic location. The ideal candidate will be energetic, motivated, excellent with children and their parents, and willing to provide coverage at all clinic locations and associated hospitals as needed. This position includes call coverage for the practice but does not currently require ER call.
Clinical Responsibilities:
- Patient Evaluation: Conduct thorough histories, physical examinations, and collect data to assess the patient’s condition and formulate a differential diagnosis.
- Physical Exam: Perform thorough physical examinations to assess musculoskeletal function, mobility, and pain.
- Diagnosis: Provide an accurate diagnosis and develop a plan of care in collaboration with the supervising physician.
- Treatment Planning: Develop and implement treatment plans, including cast, bracing or splinting, medications, injections, physical therapy, and surgical interventions as needed.
- Office Procedures: Perform various office procedures, such as casting, splinting, injection of local anesthesia or steroids, and minor surgical procedures. Be comfortable with nitrous oxide administration for reductions.
Diagnostic and Therapeutic Interventions:
- Imaging: Interpret X-rays and document radiographic findings. Review outside imaging including radiographs, MRI, CT scans, bone scans and other imaging studies to aid in diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Injections: Administer digital blocks, fracture hematoma blocks as needed for in office reductions
- Casting and Splinting: Apply casts and splints to stabilize and protect injured limbs or joints.
- Therapeutic Interventions: Provide education on exercise programs, physical therapy, and lifestyle modifications to promote optimal musculoskeletal function.
Administrative Responsibilities:
- Charting: Accurately document patient interactions, diagnoses, treatment plans, and outcomes in the medical record.
- Communication: Communicate with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding patient care and treatment plans.
- Scheduling: Coordinate patient appointments, surgeries, and procedures with the supervising physician and other healthcare professionals.
- Referral: Referrals to specialists or other healthcare professionals as needed
Education and Support:
- Patient Education: Provide patients and families with information on orthopedic conditions, treatment options, and self-management techniques.
- Staff Education: Educate other healthcare professionals about pediatric orthopedic conditions, treatments, and best practices.
Professional Development:
- Continuing Education: Stay current with the latest advances in pediatric orthopedics through ongoing education and professional development.
- Membership: Maintain membership in professional organizations, such as the American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) or the Pediatric Orthopedic Society of North America (POSNA).
- Leadership and Teamwork: Participate in leadership roles within the organization to promote excellence in pediatric orthopedic care. Work well with the three other Physicians Assistants in the practice.
