Full Job Description

The Physician Assistant (PA) complements and assists the work of the attending faculty, surgical fellows, and surgical residents to provide integrative inpatient and outpatient care in the surgery service. Our plastic surgery faculty offer state of the art care for patients with a wide range of problems arising from congenital deformity, cancer, trauma and burns. We offer a variety of surgical treatment including craniofacial and cleft lip surgery, breast reconstruction, microvascular reconstruction, hand surgery, and treatment of complex wounds. Our surgeons also perform a complete selection of cosmetic procedures of the face, breast and body. In all of our reconstructive and cosmetic surgery we endeavor to provide comprehensive care that is tailored to the individual patient’s needs. Full assumption of these responsibilities will follow a training period during which time the PA will be monitored by a physician supervisor in order to determine that knowledge and skills have reached the appropriate level. The PA will meet productivity expectations as set forth by the Section Chief of General Surgery, performing any duties related to patient care activities that are appropriate and clearly delineated. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $87.66 to $124.28 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications

Minimum of two (2) years of PA, laparoscopic surgical, and surgical assisting experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Possesses the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of PA, laparoscopic surgical, and surgical assisting experience preferred, but willing to consider a new graduate PA

License/Certification

  • Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA)
  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position
  • Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain
  • Active and transferable DEA license with schedules 2-5 to a California address and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
  • Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
  • Current AHA BLS

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
