The Physician Assistant will extend the patient care and administrative services for UAMS physicians in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Physician Assistant will be expected provide comprehensive health assessments, determine diagnoses, implement treatment plans, perform procedures, and prescribe medicines and treatments. The Physician Assistant will also manage health issues for patients, independently or in collaboration with the designated physicians. This role will work autonomously as well as in collaboration with a variety of individuals to diagnose and manage patient’s health care problems; and will serve as a health care resource, interdisciplinary consultant, and patient advocate. Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Provides healthcare services to patients which may include: comprehensive care during acute and chronic episodes of injury and illness, follow up care during post-hospital clinic appointments, education and counseling of families, health promotion and prevention, and referral to other health care providers and community resources when appropriate.

Collaborates in policy and program development, implementation, and evaluation using best practices in delivering quality service.

Engages in appropriate continuing education programs, maintain mandatory competencies, medical center computer based learning modules, and health monitoring services.
