For inpatient assignment, assists the attending physician in the care and management of patients on inpatients units within the hospital. This includes making patient rounds, contributing to the decisions for daily care, writing orders, interacting with consultants and facilitating with social work/case management and coordinating the scheduling of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures. Will make frequent bedside visits to assess the status of patients and direct care accordingly. May also see patients in the clinic environment.
For Operating Room assignment, will assist primary surgeon with the operative details of surgery cases including opening and closing independently; and endoscopic vein harvesting when indicated. For robotic cases, bedside assistance with robotic arms and instruments will be required.
For Clinic assignment, under supervision of an attending physician this position will provide diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients which will include but not be limited to taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, coordinating and interpreting lab tests, diagnostic studies, prescribing medications, and providing assistance to the patient regarding a plan of treatment and education. Other duties may include sharing call hours, phone coverage, and seeing admitted patients within the hospital. For ICU assignment, assists the attending ICU physician in the care and management of patients. This includes making patient rounds, contributing to the decisions for daily care, writing orders, interacting with consultants, and facilitating and coordinating the scheduling of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures. Will make frequent bedside visits to assess the status of patients and direct care accordingly.
Advanced Practice Providers responsibilities, but not limited to:
- Floor APPs assist in the care and daily management of 25+ patients on inpatient and outpatient clinic in collaboration with the Attending Physicians.
- Provide immediate management and medical care to stabilize patient in urgent or emergent situations and escalate level of care as needed with the assistance of Attending Physician.
- Discharge planning: includes the coordination of post-operative care needs with Case Workers/Social Work for home care, rehab or any inpatient facilities. Completes Discharge Summary, prescribe post op medications via electronic or hard copy prescriptions, education and review of discharge instructions and post-operative limitations with patient and family, provides follow-up appointments, contact information and more.
- APP sees patients for pre-op, post op and problem focused visits and provide diagnotstic and therapeutic health care coverage along with assisting Attending Physician in new patient visits or treatment plans.
Salaried position 7:00AM-5:00PM, Sun-Sat, including weekends and holidays.
- Extra shifts as needed to cover shortages.
Qualifications:
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Master’s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner registered in the state of Florida. Credentialing: Must meet requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as an Advanced Registered Nurse Pracitioner or Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable. Specific Area or Specialty -/- Additional Requirements: Adult ICUs -/- PA-C or ARNP required. ICU Experience preferred. Emergency Medicine -/- PA-C or ARNP required. Emergency Medicine Experience preferred. Surgical/Operative Adult -/- PA-C or ARNP w/RNFA required. Adult Clinic/Primary Care -/- PA-C or ARNP required.
Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this position: Will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose NOTE: A frequent driver is defined as one who uses his/her personal or Shands automobile a) at least once daily, b) at least five individual trips per week or c) drives, on average, over 150 miles per week in the performance of his/her job. Licensure/Certification/Registration: Current and clear license (or eligible to be licensed) as a Physician Assistant (PA) or Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) in the State of Florida. ACLS and BLS is required.
