Nurse Practitioner Job Summary
Advanced practice nurses are existing registered nurses who provide care in collaboration with physicians. The primary types of advanced practice nurses at Witham include nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists. Advanced practice nurses are authorized to prescribe medication per state requirements. The advance practice nurse is an expert in a special field and works directly with patients who have specific needs such as mental health, orthopedics,cardiac, pediatric and geriatrics. The nurse practitioner is the most general the advanced practice nurse specialties. Nurse practitioners work with families and individuals to lend their expertise in areas like women’s care, mental health, adult acute care, geriatrics and pediatrics. They focus on general health and well-being, in addition to patient education and prevention. Both type of advanced nurses have acquired the knowledge base and practice experiences that prepares them for specialization, expansion (new skills), and selected practice roles.
Minimum Education/License/Certification Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing program with an advanced degree (master’s or doctorate) degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Must hold an unrestricted license to practice Nursing in the State of Indiana.
- Must have two (2) years acute care clinical experience.
- Must be nationally certified in Advance Practice Specialty with recent clinically related experience in specialty.
- Be able to obtain prescriptive privileges required and the ability to maintain current privileges (to be allowed prescriptive authority) and exercise a well written collaborative practice agreement with a designated physician submitted to the State of indiana Nursing board before prescriptive authority responsibilities will be performed.
Physician Assistant Job Summary
The Physician Assistant is responsible for a variety of clinical and administrative tasks. This individual will promote continuity of patient care by working closely and under the direction of a physician to ensure that patient needs are addressed in a timely manner. This individual supports the achievement of optimal patient outcomes and unit operations by promoting individual growth, team functioning, and interdepartmental cooperation within the framework of shared decision-making and coordinated care. He/She will follow all policies, procedures, standards of care, and standards of practice. This individual must demonstrate the Witham Health Services philosophy of caring in all aspects of job performance and interpersonal relationships. Assist with other duties as necessary. Ensures that Witham’s Human Resource performance appraisal is followed including focused peer review in collaboration with physician using the pre-approved format.
Minimum Education/License/Certification Requirements
- Physician Assistant (P.A.) who has completed an accredited Physician Assistant degree program.
- Current licensure by the Indiana State Board.
