Full Job Description

Overview:

Primary Responsibilities include teaching and participation in all aspects of curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. The faculty will teach and mentor students throughout the didactic and clinical curriculum. The faculty teaching time will be distributed between both didactic and clinical year duties (50% didactic/50% clinical). Responsibilities also include scholarly activity, administrative duties, advising students, serving on school, university, state, regional, and national committees. Other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

1. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum that conforms to the program’s mission, goals, and objectives.
  • Assist in the development and review of the mission, goals, and objective of the program
  • Assist in the development of the curriculum in all stages of the program to include the didactic and clinical phases.
  • Assist with the development of goals and learning objectives for each course of study, to include the didactic and clinical phases.
2. Assist in teaching assignments
  • Provide student instruction in assigned courses.
  • Develop and evaluate student performance in both the didactic and clinical phase.
  • Some teaching assignments may exist in courses where the faculty member is not a primary instructor (e.g. labs, OSCEs, clinical year curriculum).
  • Clinical curriculum development (syllabi review, course creation, assignment and SOAP note grading)
  • Clinical OSCE planning, development, creation, and grading.
  • Coordinate clinical phase remediation.
  • Participate in clinical year callbacks.
  • Participate in all aspects of the self-study process.
  • Counsel and advise students.
  • Participate in faculty directed activities in order that the program will be an integral part of the university system.

  • Attend Faculty Senate meetings.
3.Develop, coordinate, administer and evaluate the clinical curriculum.
  • Develop and Establish Clinical training Sites
  • Establish new affiliation agreements.
  • Identify and establish new clinical sites to meet program needs.
  • Conduct clinical site visits
  • Intervene with students based on negative preceptor evaluations.
  • Intervene with preceptors based on negative student evaluations.
  • Communicate any clinical site issues to PA program leadership.
4.Participate in the Promotion and Advancement Committee
  • Assist in the progression of the students
  • Ensure that remediation is available
  • Determine and assign remediation as appropriate
  • Participate in the Admissions Committee
  • Assist in developing and reviewing the admissions process
  • Assist in the selection of applicants for admission
5. Participate in other committees as needed
  • Identify sources for and participate in the preparation and implementation of grants and contracts supportive of the activities of the PA program
  • Assist with the development of short and long range strategic plans
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection of suitable faculty and staff
  • Assist with design, specifications and improvements to program resources, supplies, space and equipment
  • Participate in local, state and national professional organizations to ensure program excellence and appropriateness of curriculum and instruction
  • Develop Scholarship to advance knowledge in healthcare, pedagogy and PA careers.
  • Mentor Students in scholarship to include review articles, community impact and research to include preparing students for poster, podium and written presentations.
  • Participate as a leader and/or provider on the Mobile Health Clinic and other University sponsored outreach events.
6. Actively engages in the advancement of the University
  • Builds collaborative partnership opportunities across and among various entities participating in networking opportunities, [internal and external partners, other colleges and universities, hospitals, local organizations, societies, etc.] promoting relationships with the University.
  • Promotes and represents the University at local, state, and national events (attending and participating in conferences, serving as a speaker/presenter, networking with colleagues to foster program development, participating in various community opportunities, etc.)
  • Refers to and coordinates in advance with the Office of Advancement/Public Relations team on all media contacts, communications, and/or interactions to include message, promotion, etc. in which asked to serve as an official representative, content expert, or spokesperson on behalf of the University.
  • Coordination in advance with the Office of Advancement on all Touro related legislative issues to include contact with the national, state, and local government officials, whether in official University capacity or with a national, state or local organization.
  • Serves on various committees and teams within the University as assigned (attending meetings, contributing to discussions, sharing/exchanging information, and leading constituents toward goal attainment) to include advising and mentoring (Students, clubs, campus organizations)
  • Contributes to University’s compliance with and in the development of required documentation as related to accreditation of all programs to which departmental content is contributed. (faculty adequacy model, gathering data, self-assessment, peer review, providing input/feedback, etc.) aiding in the attainment of academic compliance
  • Is knowledgeable of and remains in compliance with all institutional policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Handbook for Touro University Nevada.
  • Contributes to team effort by performing other duties as needed/assigned

Qualifications:

Education:
  • Masters prepared PA-C or MD/DO, Current PA national certification and eligibility for licensure in Education: NV, Current eligibility or unrestricted license as an allopathic or osteopathic physician in NV, Current eligibility or Certification by an ABMS or AOA-approved specialty board, A minimum of five years of clinical experience, teaching experience preferred
Experience:
  • Three years of clinical experience required, and previous education experience preferred
