Seeking a Part time Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant for Family Practice/Urgent Fort Worth, TX for 3 to 4 Saturdays a month

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant who is licensed and has the correct credentials will provide diagnosis, treatment, consultation, and follow-up care of patients under the direct supervision of a physician. A nurse practitioner (NP) is a registered nurse (RN) who has completed advanced education (a minimum of a master’s degree) and training in the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions, including chronic illnesses. The NP can provide some of the same care provided by physicians and maintain close working relationships with physicians; may also serve as a patient’s regular healthcare provider. Physician assistants (PA) are required to be licensed by the state in which they practice. Along with completion of an accredited training program, the licensing process entails passage of the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE) . Administered by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

The responsibilities of the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant may include:

  • Order and interpret indicated diagnostic testing based upon evidence-based medicine (EBM) and clinical practice guidelines (CPG)
  • Utilize eClinicalWorks electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Perform minor procedures including but not limited to suturing and neoplasm removal
  • Counseling and educating patients on health behaviors, self-care skills and treatment options
  • Diagnosing and treating acute illnesses, infections and injuries
  • Diagnosing, treating, and monitoring chronic diseases (e.g., diabetes, high blood pressure)
  • Obtaining medical histories and conducting physical examinations
  • Ordering, performing and interpreting diagnostic studies (e.g., lab tests, x-rays, EKGs)
  • Prescribing medications
  • Prescribing physical therapy and other rehabilitation treatments
  • Providing prenatal care and family planning services
  • Providing well-child care, including screening and immunizations
  • Providing health maintenance care for adults, including annual physicals

PRIMARY OBJECTIVES

Promote advanced practice nursing in family / primary care.

  • Develop relationships with patients to establish specific needs, prior to providing care
  • Perform minor procedures including but not limited to suturing and neoplasm removal

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The Nurse Practitioner must be a registered nurse
  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Must pass and obtain National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN)
  • Must have a Nurse Practitioner degree or certification
  • Physician Assistant must have PA degree or certification
  • Must have board certification for job specialty (e.g. family, women’s health, pediatrics or neonatal).
  • Aside from all the medical knowledge, Nurse Practitioners/Physician Assistants should also excel at certain soft skills; such as how to listen to a patient, to communicate in a clear and respectful way, to think on your feet and to be compassionate.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak English

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • NPs must be nationally registered as a nurse, and board certified as a nurse practitioner, so that they will be specialized to work in many areas of medical care
  • DEA License
  • State-controlled substances License (if applicable)
  • RN, BSN, MS or MSN degree
  • Minimum of 2-years’ experience in family medicine
  • Board eligibility or certification
  • Experience in procedures, reading diagnostic studies including EKGs, Weight Loss, Allergy Treatment, Women’s and Men’s Hormone Health
  • 4 years of RN degree and Master’s Degree in Nursing (2-4 additional years)
  • Must be certified to practice
  • BLS / ACLS and PALS Certification
  • Flexible to work at Multiple Locations

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to blood and other bodily fluids, the use of needles which exposes the employee to punctures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, depending on patient flow.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

  • Medical Assistant or a team of medical staff
