Director of Clinical Operations

The Director of Clinical Operations will lead the organization’s clinical excellence programs with high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution, and vision. Role Description: This managerial role reporting to the President is pivotal in spearheading a new wound care service line launch, which will encompass all clinical aspects. This includes clinician management, development of and implementation of clinical training programs, implementing clinical pathways & guidelines, development and implementation of quality programs, and serve as the SME to the new service-line. We are seeking a dynamic professional who will bring a background in driving operating processes, project ownership, leadership, teamwork, and significant experience in medical documentation standards per CMS.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership: Responsible for driving highly aligned, dynamic, and long-term relationships with referral partners to develop a flowing pipeline of Medicare patients. Serving as an extension of leadership teams while continuing to innovate care models to create a world-class patient experience with world-class quality of care. Ability to manage upwards and downwards, identify and implement systems to improve operational performance cross-functionally, founded on sustainable and Medicare-compliant business practices. Collaborate with internal and external teams to drive initiatives with provider/referral partners. Lead recruitment, development, and mentorship of a superior team of clinicians and clinical support staff to treat wound care patients.
Performance Management: Identify & implement process improvement initiatives such as system/reporting needs and documentation requirements that align with Medicare regulations which ensure satisfactory operational and clinical performance that promotes excellent care delivery. Utilize audit results, provide feedback, and other related data points to identify opportunities in improved clinical education, clinical quality programs, clinical guidelines, training opportunities, and opportunities to collaborate across the organization. Leverage organizational dashboards, analytics, and root cause reporting for the responsible functions as it pertains to assigned functions. Incorporate Medicare clinical excellence program activities and results directly to individual providers such as scorecards. Managing a feedback loop from providers to identify opportunities to expand clinical knowledge and personal growth needs.
Training Program Management: Lead the implementation of a comprehensive organizational wide clinical training program. Conduct centralized role-based training across the organization in coordination with team members. Using various methods such as written guides, groups settings, one on one, and pre-recorded approaches. Develop programs which create career ladders based on level of knowledge, expertise, skills, and behaviors. Ranging from providers new to wound care to experienced team members that can be leveraged throughout the organization. In tandem, training must be geared towards effective communication, interpersonal, organizational, and multi-tasking skills. Incorporate training of high-quality patient engagement and experience such as motivational interviewing, agenda setting techniques, explaining clinical situations, engagement with family members. Maintain and deliver ongoing clinical training based on organization needs as relating to Medicare such as best practices, updated clinical guidelines, clinical audit finding, and feedback from team members. Develop and execute annual skills and knowledge assessments review program. Track clinical training programs to meet and obtain CEU/ CME recognition as applicable. Clinically support team members seeking wound care certification.
Clinical Pathways and Guidelines Management: Manage staff of NPs, PAs, LVNs/LPNs who are responsible for providing care to Medicare patients Design, participate, and execute the growth strategy for the business via increased referral sources, retention models, and other initiatives as identified. Manage clinical pathway development and integration efforts across people, processes, and technology from intake to the reimbursement of the last visit. This includes the use of end user quick reference guides, templates, order sets, documentation requirements for coding/compliance, etc. for both internal and external use. Organize training programs to align with clinical pathway requirements.
Clinical Quality Program Management: Build and implement comprehensive quality auditing program to monitor clinical aspects of the patient journey as relating to Medicare Determine / outline discharge review criteria based on clinical guidelines to ensure appropriate review and discharge of patients. Conduct audits based on program description. Assist in development of auditing technology, scorecards, dashboards, or other quality program reporting needs. Define and incorporate a Clinical Quality Committee to support activities such as a resource for providers for feedback, internal case reviews, audit finding for deficient performance, etc. Share feedback on audits with leadership and engage in ongoing dialogue regarding clinical quality results and improvement initiatives.
Organizational Support & Communication: Advise on internal and external facing clinical related documents such as marketing materials, patient brochures, etc. Partner with growth team to pitch our offerings and value proposition to prospective referral partners Support technology development/procurement and management directly relating to care delivery. Develop other policies related to clinical safety and care such as use of clinical supplies, provider field safety, infection control, risk mitigation, etc. Interact regularly with different members of the leadership team and individual department heads to ensure that company’s operational priorities are aligned with service line goals. Manage and execute clinical excellence programs across the organization via key milestones and tasks required for execution. Set program goals and outcomes as applicable.
Minimum Requirements: NP or PA, (DNP preferred) 5+ years of working in Medicare programs 5+ years people and program management experience 3+ years in a senior management role 10+ years’ experience in delivering compassionate health care Core experience of building quality and training teams at all levels. Facilitate groups across the organization to achieve performance objectives. Demonstrate strong interpersonal / verbal communication skills. Initiative-taking and energetic, with strong people skills and experience in dealing with and influencing internal stakeholders, customers, and senior leaders. Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Power Point, and EMR systems. Ability to work independently, multi-task, and meet deadlines in a demanding environment with frequent priority changes.
Role Desirables: DNP, MHA, MBA 5+ years’ wound care experience Mobile health care delivery experience preferred Experience in obtaining certification of training programs for CEU / CMEs Experience in adult learning and education development Ability to quickly grasp the business issues and objectives at stake and to speak the language of the local culture, as required. Ability to apply original Medicare knowledge and experience to address issues; ability to clearly define issues despite ambiguity and to take a holistic perspective when making decisions. Teaching experience in an academic setting Fluent in English and Spanish
