Job Summary
We are seeking an Advanced Practice Provider Fellow for Duke Neurology located in Durham, NC. The Advanced Practice Provider Fellow is involved in a 12-month intensive training program administered by the Department of Neurology. The Advanced Practice Provider Fellows are credentialed as full members of the medical team and are involved in all aspects of preventative, diagnostic, and therapeutic patient care. The Fellow will attend lectures, seminars, and laboratories and participate in clinical, hands-on patient care with appropriate oversight by the supervising physician.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Attend lectures and seminars that have been designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pathophysiology of various disease processes. Instruction will cover both general and subspecialty topics. Emphasis will be placed on didactic and clinical training in neurology which will allow the fellow to gain more autonomy as they master evaluation skills, knowledge of disease processes, and become competent in all procedures necessary to practice in a specified medical practice.
- In addition to classroom/laboratory instruction, the clinical curriculum will include attending weekly APP Fellows Conference, Interesting Case Conference, Grand Rounds, Resident Lecture Series and conferences organized by the Department of Neurology. Prepare for clinical rotations by reviewing patient’s charts before clinic, rounding with the healthcare team and becoming familiar with the routine of the clinical practice.
- Clinical curriculum duties will include history and physical examinations, writing patient orders and progress notes in the hospital record, responding to and evaluating patient problems, making rounds, ordering diagnostic studies, and performing invasive procedures with appropriate competence checks and oversight by the supervising physician and/or designated back-up physicians.
- Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Job Eligibility Requirements
Education
- Nurse Practitioners: Work requires completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, with a Master’s degree in Nursing.
- Physician Assistants: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program. A Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree strongly preferred.
Certification
- BLS required.
License
- Nurse Practitioners: Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BLS required. National certification as a NP required.
- Physician Assistants: Must be licensed in the state of NC, and be certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Experience
New graduates welcome to apply. Demonstration of neurology or neuroscience interest or experience is beneficial.
Job Hours
Monday-Friday, day shift, with flexibility to meet clinic needs on outpatient rotations. Monday-Saturday with sign out to covering team on inpatient rotations
