Position Summary: Physician Assistant (Orthopedic Spine)

As a Physician Assistant in our dynamic healthcare setting, you will play a vital role in providing medical exams, diagnostic evaluations, and therapeutic medical care under the supervision of a Physician. This position requires expertise in orthopedics, with responsibilities encompassing the development and implementation of treatment plans, including radiology exams, physical therapy, joint injections, spinal injections, and medications.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct direct patient care, including histories and physicals, assessments, and treatment plans.
  • Develop and recommend comprehensive treatment plans for patients, considering various modalities such as radiology exams, physical therapy, joint injections, spinal injections, medications, and bone densitometry.
  • Administer intramuscular injections, joint injections, and trigger point injections.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to medical assistants, radiology, and ultrasound technologists.
  • Collaborate effectively with physicians, medical assistants, schedulers, billers, and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Maintain a patient case load as an integral member of the clinical team.
  • Access Patient Health Information (PHI) as required to perform duties and fulfill responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an AMA accredited Physician Assistant program; MS preferred.
  • Current Texas PA license and certified through the National Commission on Certification of Physician’s Assistants (NCCPA).
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Physician’s Assistant, preferably in orthopedics.
  • Strong computer literacy with fundamental skills for essential job duties.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Ability to perform complex medical decision-making independently under stressful conditions.

Educational and Professional Requirements:

  • Meet all state and federal licensure qualifications for physician assistants.
  • Engage in ongoing education to maintain active licensure.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide oversight to medical assistants in the clinical care team.
  • Offer education to clinical staff to ensure quality care and patient safety.
  • Observe and coach medical staff to improve performance of duties and interactions with patients.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct patient chart audits to maintain documentation standards.
  • Actively participate in staff meetings and collaborate with physicians and caregivers.
  • Set goals and prepare plans in consultation with the supervising physician.
  • Provide monthly chart review summaries to physicians per scope of practice and prescriptive authority requirements.
  • Travel to specific office locations for assigned clinic days to see patients in office.

Physical Demands:

  • May be expected to lift 25 to 150 pounds with assistance.
  • Work involves walking or standing most of the time.
  • Visual and auditory acuity, as well as manual dexterity, are essential for performing designated duties.
  • Conditions are clean, neat, and well-lit, with occasional exposure to stressful situations, unpleasant sights or odors, and infectious diseases.
  • Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced, and hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended.
