Job Summary:
Under the limited direction of the attending Physician or designee, the Nurse Practitioner obtains and records patient medical history; performs physical examinations; orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans. Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plan in consultation with attending physician; performs routine invasive procedures; performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery, and other related areas. Participates in the management of patient’s care, determining need for consultation to ensure the continuity and quality of care.
Job Description:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Obtains and records complete medical history of patient

Performs physical examinations and documents results
-
Orders, evaluates and monitors medical and laboratory diagnostic tests and treatment plans including laboratory tests, x-rays, pharmaceuticals, blood products and interdisciplinary consults in collaboration with the attending physician or designee and according to established guidelines

Prepares, develops and initiates treatment plan in consultation with attending physician. Develops inpatient and outpatient care and writes medication and other orders as prescribed by law

Performs routine invasive procedures

Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures based on education, experience and departmental needs

Educates and counsels patient and family members on condition, desired results of treatment plans, expectations during illness and recovery and other related areas

Conducts patient rounds and documents assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan in progress notes

Responsible for a variety of patient care activities in assigned outpatient clinic (e.g., performs surgical procedures, provides pre and post-operative care)

Prepares discharge summaries, as assigned. Responds to emergencies and initiates appropriate treatment until relieved of their duties by a Physician

May participate in clinical and experimental research, including statistical analysis of data

Maintains and enhances expertise through appropriate educational and organizational activities

Must have on file at all times accurate and up-to-date documentation demonstrating a supervising/collaborating physician relationship
Education, Licensure/Certification, and Training:
-
Registered Nurse licensure to practice in State of Michigan
-
Graduate of an accredited NP program. AGACNP is required for this position OR a Critical Care Certification
-
ANCC or AANP certification
-
Must possess an unrestricted license to practice in the State of Michigan, including
-
Registered Nurse and Nurse Prescriber authorization, and an unrestricted DEA registration for each practice location
-
3 years of professional experience in an acute setting, preferred.

Current BLS certification
-
Knowledge of OSHA, MIOSHA, JACHO and HIPAA regulations
Skills and Abilities:
-
Knowledge of patient care standards and practices normally acquired through graduation from an accredited nurse practitioner program, current Registered Nurse license in State of Michigan

Knowledge of professional theory, practice, and medical care to give and evaluate patient care

Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to supervise.

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions, ability to establish a safe work environment
-
Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments, ability to assist in administration of patient care
Safety Requirements:

Compliance with Department Health and Safety policies and procedures
Working Conditions/Schedule:
-
12 hour night shifts, 14 shifts per month. Days to be determined by the business needs of the department.
