The Opportunity
We are seeking a Part Time (34 Hour) Nocturnist Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Intensivist team at Cooley Dickinson Hospital. This is a nightshift role, 7:00pm to 7:00am. The NP/PA will work 10-11 shifts per month. The shifts are not set, and the team works collaboratively to make a schedule that works for everyone on a quarterly basis with weekends and holidays split equitably amongst the group. We are located on the CDH Main Campus at 30 Locust St, Northampton, MA 01060.
At the start of shifts, the NP/PA receives sign out on the ICU and step-down unit patients from the daytime APC. The NP/PA continues the active management of the ICU patients and spends the first part of their shifts informally rounding on the patients. The NP/PA handles any admissions or transfers to the ICU and responds to emergencies as needed. At midnight, the NP/PA assumes responsibility for cross-covering med surg patients until 7:00am. The NP/PA assists the hospitalist with admissions to med-surg and telemetry as needed and as time allows. At 7:00am, the NP/PAs give sign out to the daytime APC and ICU attending on overnight events and any new admissions or consults.
The NP/PA is also responsible for:
- Actively managing patients in the ICU including basic ventilator management and management of shock
- Performs histories and physicals for patients admitted from the ED and Critical Care consults from the other hospital units
- Responds to in-hospital emergencies including rapid responses, code blues, and massive transfusion protocols
- Collaborates with attending ICU physician
- Coordinates care with subspecialty consultants as needed
- Cross-covers patients on the medical-surgical floor
- Conducts various procedures including central lines, arterial lines, and intubations
The NP/PA will support physicians, collaborate with consultants, nurses, case managers, and others to provide high-quality, efficient care for the ICU patients. This is an opportunity for a mid-level to work autonomously, up to the top of their licensure.

Qualifications

Education:
- Master’s degree in nursing or physician assistant studies required.
Experience:
- 2+ years of previous critical care experience strongly preferred.
Certification:
- Certified Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant licensure required upon hire.
