Purpose of Position:
In this role, the successful candidate’s primary focus will be to see patients in the emergency room with chest pain and heart failure that could be considered for early discharge from the ED utilizing expedited cardiac testing and medical therapy. The candidate will conduct clinical assessment, provide same day stress testing, coronary CTA or rapid diuresis (for HF patients) in order to expedite flow and discharges from ED. The candidate(s) will also support the cardiac noninvasive diagnostic lab and liaison with Radiology for coronary CT angiography
Examples of Typical Tasks:
- Assess low and intermediate risk chest pain patients in the ED and provide support to coordinate and prepare patient for prompt coronary CTA with radiology or stress testing in diagnostic cardiology
- Initiate expedited diuresis of heart failure patients eligible for discharge from ED
- Support clinical activities in diagnostic cardiology suite
- Perform bubble studies to evaluate cardiac shunts
- Perform Definity contrast studies (IV injection) for echocardiograms
- Enhance safety of the diagnostic suite
- Respond to patients who decompensate during stress tests / PFTs / tilt table testing
- Participates in the development of policy, education, evaluation and management of clinical personnel and other administrative responsibilities as assigned.
- Participates in Departmental PI and QA initiatives.
- Observes established dress guidelines.
- Attends departmental and hospital required education and training
- Completes electronic documentation as per Hospital policy
- Attends departmental and hospital required training/educational classes.
- Responsible for maintaining necessary CME
- Adheres to all Hospital Mandated education, In-service and recredentialing process

Minimum Qualifications
1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; and,2. Current certification issued by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA); and,3. Two years of full time, satisfactory clinical experiences as a Physician Assistant.
