Full Job Description
The Physician Assistant will care for patients on the Surgery services at UCSF Health. The PA will work in post-surgical inpatient services. Specific duties will include rounding with the inpatient team, answering pages from nurses, writing orders, writing notes (occasionally), evaluation and management of patients, and coordinating discharges. Outpatient duties will include patient encounters, responding to follow up phone calls from recently discharged patients when a clinician’s response is required, and clinic visits. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $80.98 – $120.66 (Hourly Rate).

Required Qualifications
- Minimum one to two (1-2) years recent experience working as a Physician Assistant in an orthopedic specialty.
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
- Ability to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
- Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.
Sr. Physician Assistant
- Five (5) years of recent experience as a Physician Assistant, preferable in an orthopedic specialty.
- Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position
- Ability to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
- Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
- Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in an academic medical center.
License/Certification
- Active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
- California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
- Current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
- Active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
- Complete an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
- Submit enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
- Current AHA BLS.
UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
