Full Job Description

Job Purpose: Provides gastroenterology health care to individuals, evaluating health problems and instituting therapy in collaboration with a MNGI pediatric gastroenterologist and/or referring for other care.

Essential Functions: In order to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily and regular attendance is required. The responsibilities listed below are representative of the primary essential functions required; additional duties may be assigned. Key Responsibilities:

  • Works in our clinics and/or the hospitals in which we support
  • Completes initial and follow up consultation with patients in the hospital and clinical setting in collaboration with a MNGI gastroenterologist
  • Completes patient history, physical exams and provide patient teaching as applicable
  • Documents patient encounters appropriately and in a timely manner to ensure consistency of care and adequate billing
  • Submits comprehensive and compliant coding and billing for services provided
  • Initiates and manages therapies for preventative and chronic GI disease
  • Issues prescription orders for medications and completes prescription refill requests in 24 hours
  • Reviews and signs off on labs within 72 hours
  • Uses formularies and guidelines to help patients manage the cost of their care
  • Demonstrates proficient use of electronic medical records
  • Uses MNGI disease guidelines and protocols in making medical decisions
  • Complies with MNGI Provider Education requirements including at onboarding and annually
  • Coordinates in-patient video capsules and procedures in hospital as defined by current guidelines
  • Takes occasional weekend hospital coverage call (8am-5pm) as assigned or finds replacement
  • Communicates professionally, promptly and compassionately with MNGI employees, physicians and external customers
  • Completes other duties as assigned to meet business need

Education and/or Experience: At minimum, must have one of the following degrees:

  • Master degree in Science, Physician Assistant Studies
  • Master degree in Nursing, Nurse Practitioner

Certifications/Licenses: Certified Nurse Practitioner license or Certified Physician Assistant license is required. Applicable MN and WI state license is required.

Must maintain a BLS certification.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to walk, sit, reach overhead, bend to the floor, and may be required to stand for long periods of time. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is required to use dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, other clinic equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be required to lift and transport items up to 50 pounds. Employees may be required to travel to other company locations due to staffing and training needs.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee works in a clinical environment and may be exposed to hazardous chemicals or conditions including exposure to blood or other body fluids. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and training will be provided. The employee is exposed to a computer monitor daily. The employee may be required to travel by automobile and exposed to changing weather conditions while performing the duties of this position. While performing the duties of this position, the employee must be alert to conditions that may impact the safety of patients, employees and visitors.

Experience

  • One or more years of PA/NP clinical experience working with pediatric patients in a hospital or clinic setting
