Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant –Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology Associates is seeking a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant to join our Fairfax Virginia office in a brand new state-of-the-art comprehensive cancer center to provide high quality multidisciplinary patient care to its radiation oncology patients in a physician office setting. The selected candidate will work in collaboration with physicians in an innovative and progressive health care environment. Experience is preferred but new graduates are welcome to apply.

As a primary health care provider working in collaboration with a licensed physician or physicians, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will assess the physical status of patients by means of interview, health history, physical examinations and diagnostic tests. In accordance with medical protocols agreed upon by the physician, the NP/PA will evaluate test findings, make initial medical diagnosis and develop care and treatment plans. Other activities will include support of patient/family education, care coordination, and psychosocial care of patients and families.

Job Duties:

  • Conduct initial consultation patient interviews, present information to physician, assist with clinical documentation of patient encounters and assist in treatment summaries
  • Perform clinical assessments and manage symptoms for patients currently undergoing radiotherapy, including ordering and interpreting lab and imaging tests and prescribing medications.
  • Assess patient/family needs, provide counseling/education, and recommend resources.
  • See follow up patients independently or under supervision of the radiation oncologist.
  • Attend chart rounds, tumor boards, specialty meetings, and conferences as needed
  • Assist with multiple aspects of radiotherapy treatment planning.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirement:

  • Graduate of an accredited NP/PA program.
  • Licensed to practice as a NP or PA in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • 2 years clinical experience in oncology preferred but not mandatory
  • Currently certified as a NP/PA by national credentialing institution and commitment to maintain certification as required.
  • Prescribes medications including oral, parenteral, intramuscular, or subcutaneous drugs.
  • Prescribes controlled medications within the Commonwealth of Virginia’s advanced practitioner scope of practice and per Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) guidelines.
  • AOCNP certification /APAO membership or commitment to obtain within 2 years of hire.
  • Current CPR Certification required.
  • Strong technical/computer skills and EMR experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $120,000.00 – $140,000.00 per year
