Job Summary
With the collaboration of the affiliate School Based Medical Director, the Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides comprehensive patient care by systemic assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, and follow up, affecting direct patient care tHuman Resourcesough the disease process according to the Texas Nursing Practice Act and Memorial Hermann’s Clinical Guidelines for a school based clinic.
In addition the incumbent will also be responsible in managing staff, will oversee clinical department operations, ensures regulatory compliance of clinical services, effectively manages resources and develops and monitors the operating budget.Job Description

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Masters Degree in Nursing (MSN) or Masters Degree as Physician Assistant from an accredited educational program
License/Certification:
- Current, unrestricted State of Texas license Advanced Practice Registered Nurse with completion of a certified Family or
- Pediatric Nurse Practitioner training program or
- AANP, PNCB, or ANCC certification
- Texas certification of as an advanced practice registered nurse or
- Texas licensed Physician Assistant with completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
- Certified in Basic Life Support
Experience/ Knowledge / Skills:
- Two (2) years clinical experience in area of intended practice in mid-level provider role
- Limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing or Texas Medical Board
- Maintains communication with SBHC Medical Director and/or attending physicians to review patient records and care plans on a routine basis
- Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills to enhance & maintain positive relations with collaborating school districts, outside agencies/organizations, and staff across all SBHC disciplines
- Supervisory skills preferred
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to execute multiple projects
- Effective oral and written communication skills
Principal Accountabilities
- Provides assessment, triage, and therapeutic management of patient/family needs throughout the disease process as an integral part of an interdisciplinary team, according to the age, needs of the patient, population served.
- Acts under the authority and supervision of the SBHC Medical Director and/or attending physicians in accordance with regulations, hospital policy, protocols, and guidelines.
- Completes history and physical on patients; writes medical orders per established protocols; provides approved clinical services.
- Collaborates in the development and evaluation of patient care. Updates clinical guidelines/protocols; works autonomously and accepts accountability for outcomes.
- Collaborates in research and teaching projects and applies research to practice.
- Uses interpersonal and verbal communication skills to educate patient/family on care and resources; participates in process improvement and multidisciplinary clinical outcome improvement activities utilizing advanced clinical expertise.
- Manages financial and operational activities to ensure adequate staffing and scheduling; screens and selects staff; addresses performance issues and takes corrective action as necessary; and conducts performance reviews in a timely and effective manner.
- Accountable for customer satisfaction, cost control, and for performance improvement by monitoring outcomes and improving the delivery of care.
- Works in the SBHC team environment to establish policies, procedures and standards of care, as well as the development of new/enhanced services within budgetary specifications.
- Participates in strategic planning and goal setting.
- Participates in marketing and promotion within the collaborating school districts.
- Prepares annual operating budget. Monitors and manages the use of resources to ensure budgets are met. Improves operational processes in order to reduce cost.
- Shows good judgment in the utilization of operating funds and human capital.
- Analyzes and communicates current departmental issues to appropriate individuals both within and outside of the organization.
- Actively participates in interdisciplinary communication.
- Ensures safe care to patients, staff and visitors; adheres to all Memorial Hermann policies, procedures, and standards within budgetary specifications including time management, supply management, productivity and quality of service.
- Promotes individual professional growth and development by meeting requirements for mandatory/continuing education and skills competency; supports department-based goals which contribute to the success of the organization; serves as preceptor, mentor and resource to less experienced staff.
