Position Summary:
Physician Assistant to work with Harvard-trained Orthopedic Surgeon whose practice specializes in knee and hip replacement, reconstruction, and revision surgery. PA will be primarily responsible to assess, evaluate and treat patients in the medical office setting, under the supervision and collaboration of physician, by using advanced knowledge and skills to identify abnormal conditions, diagnose health problems, develop and implement treatment plans, and evaluate patient outcomes. PA will assist in surgeries, round on patients in hospital, and coordinate discharges. PA will see both new and established patients in the clinic, as well as pre-operative and post-operative patients. Medical decision making will include referrals to surgeon for decisions for surgery.
Position Education/Qualifications:
1. Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program, (Prior to January 2001) – Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.
2. Current Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. (NCCPA)
3. Texas Medical Board license or eligibility of state of Texas licensure.
4. DEA license or eligibility for DEA license.
5. Minimum Two (2) years’ experience as a Physician Assistant with medical office and surgical experience preferred.
6. ACLS certification within 30 days of hire.
7. Eligible for privileges with Medical Staff Office.
8. Excellent customer service skills.
9. Bilingual – English/Spanish
Job Knowledge/Experience:
1. Experience in a supervisory position is strongly preferred.
2. Requires reasoning ability and good independent judgement.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills and must be able to be sensitive to cultural and bilingual issues.
4. Organization skills are necessary.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills required, as well as timely and complete patient encounter documentation.
6. Requires working with frequent interruptions.
7. Must project a professional image.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Responsible to assess, evaluate and treat patients in the medical office setting as well as assist in the surgical setting.
2. Collaborate with or refer to physician in the medical practice for further care management.
3. Demonstrate the organization’s mission and core values, and conducts oneself at all times in a manner consistent with these values.
4. Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to patient health, safety and medical information.
5. Performs complete, accurate history and physical assessment/examination as appropriate for patient setting/type of visit and closes notes on a daily basis for all patients.
6. Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests and accurately communicates results to patient, completes all documentation, adhering to compliance standards for documentation, coding/billing and collaborative supervision. Reports abnormal findings to supervising physician.
7. Prescribes appropriate treatment, pharmacological agents and/or other non-pharmacological interventions.
8. Completes simple and complex procedures independently. Reports adverse patient responses to supervising physician.
9. Provides direct patient and family education regarding patient medical condition/disease process, treatment methodologies, outcomes management, wellness and prognosis.
10. Determines the effectiveness of patient care plans, treatment and interventions through reassessment and modifies as necessary to achieve patient health status goals. Reports significant plan changes to supervising physician.
11. Communicates with physician regarding variations from normal and evaluation of patient outcomes. Collaborates with physician and other members of health care team to provide individualized plan of care.
12. Participate in medical record, patient care, quality assurance, process improvement and compliance audits, evaluations and follow-up..
13. Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness in handling schedule coverage and service excellence.
14. Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job, effective operation of medical practice and accesses/delivery of care to patients as directed
