We are a well-established general and bariatric surgery practice serving the Brooklyn community, offering comprehensive surgical care including minimally invasive general and bariatric surgery as well as medical weight loss.
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Physician Assistant to join our team. This role is primarily office-based, supporting the surgeon(s) in patient evaluation, pre-operative workup, post-operative care, and ongoing management of general and bariatric surgery patients.
Responsibilities
- Conduct new patient consultations and comprehensive history & physical exams
- Coordinate and review pre-operative clearance (labs, imaging, cardiology/pulmonology clearance, psych evaluation, nutrition consults)
- Manage insurance pre-authorization documentation and medical necessity criteria for bariatric and panniculectomy procedures
- Perform post-operative follow-up visits, wound checks, and staple/suture removal
- Educate patients on pre- and post-surgical protocols, dietary progression, and lifestyle modifications
- Manage patient messages, prescription refills, and care coordination between visits
- Assist with documentation, chart notes, and CPT coding accuracy (e.g., 15830/15847, bariatric procedure codes)
- Collaborate closely with the surgeon(s), office staff, and referring physicians
Qualifications
- Active NYS Physician Assistant license (or license-eligible)
- NCCPA certification (PA-C)
- Current BLS/ACLS certification
- Prior experience in general surgery, bariatric surgery, or a related surgical specialty strongly preferred
- Familiarity with bariatric insurance authorization processes a plus
- Strong communication skills and a patient-first approach
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced office environment with a high patient volume
Schedule
- Office-based role (no OR/first-assist requirement)
- Standard business hours
Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive hourly/salary compensation based on experience
Pay: $75.00 – $90.00 per hour
