Key Responsibilities
Responsible for providing care services to pediatric patients with Sleep Pathology, including assessing, diagnosing, prescribing, treating, and educating patients. Works closely with physicians and other clinicians in a team approach to patient care. Additional responsibilities include organization and follow-up of pediatric sleep studies and assistance in sleep clinic informational hand-outs and CPAP support resources for families.
- Provide on-site direct professional services to patients of the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Center clinic patients for a total of 6 half-day clinic sessions per week.
- Assess patient status by obtaining sleep and medical history through patient/family interviews and chart reviews
- Complete Electronic Medical Record (“EMR”) of each patient encounter within 72 hours of clinic visit.
- Order/perform appropriate laboratory, diagnostic, and other screening tests. Seeks other information as needed, including consultation with physicians and other clinicians, for evaluation of illness. Integrates data to determine diagnosis and therapeutic plan, including identification of any health risks.
- Triage patient phone calls and provide consultation. Check EMR inbox daily and address the results of blood work and sleep studies in a timely manner.
- Participate in peer reviews, chart reviews, staff education, clinical guideline development, and other continuing education and quality assurance activities to demonstrate compliance with standards, regulations, policies, and procedures. Act as consultant/collaborator to clinical team on area of specialty. Comply with patient confidentiality requirements. Promote patient advocacy.
- Participate in initiating and following up preauthorization for medications.
- Collaborate with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patient. Provide monitoring and continuity of care between visits
- Maintain CPR and infection control training.
- Maintain and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Review and communicate test and examination results to physicians and patient families.
Requirements: Current professional license as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant with board certification.
Education: BSN required; MSN preferred. Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner program or MA physician assistant and approved NYS licensure.
Experience: : Minimum one year of professional experience in a pediatric subspecialty setting is preferred.
Other Requirements: Current state registered nurse license. Current state license as an advanced registered nurse practitioner with prescriptive authority or plan to sit for certification test to achieve licensure within 1-3 months of hiring. Current CPR certification.
