Job Description
The Department of Surgery is excited to announce the opening for a Nurse Practitioner – Specialty Care or Physician Assistant – Specialty Care. This individual will act as a physician extender for the collaborating surgeons within Surgical Oncology. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a high level of autonomy and expert skills in the diagnosis and treatment of actual and potential health problems. The primary duties of this position include:
- Clinical responsibilities will be a combination of outpatient and inpatient care of patients. Duties would include evaluating patients, ordering tests, reviewing treatment plans, ordering therapies, communication among medical teams, and completing documentation.
- Perform physical examinations, order diagnostic tests, and perform or assist with minor procedures. Obtain and document a focused history and physical, relating other aspects of a patient’s medical information to their surgical care. This role will include evaluation of new patient consultations and triage of urgent established patients. The candidate will assist in peri-operative evaluations.
- Excellent care documentation is an expectation of the candidate.
- Coordination of care with nurse navigator in surgical oncology will be an important aspect of daily duties. The candidate will assist with the development of enhanced recovery pathways in surgical oncology, as well as contribute to the value of care provided by the surgical oncology surgery teams.
- Participate in research studies and clinical trials will be a component of duties as determined by the establishment of studies and trials.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
NURSE PRACTITIONER SPECIALTY CARE (6435) Master of Science in Nursing degree. Missouri Board of Nursing RN or Nurse Licensure Compact multi-state RN. When primary state of residency changes, compact state RNs must apply under new state of residency within thirty (30) days. Must be granted a “Document of Recognition” from the Missouri Board of Nursing.
PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SPECIALTY CARE (6804) Physicians Assistant (PA) licensure by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.
Preferred Qualifications
NURSE PRACTITIONER SPECIALTY CARE (6435) Possess a specialty certificate by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Pediatric Certification Nursing Board (PCNB), or the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $103,000 – $118,768 annually Grade: PAT – 012 University Title: NURSE PRACTITIONER SPECIALTY CARE (6435) or PHYSICIAN ASSISTANT SPECIALTY CARE (6804) Internal applicants can determine their university title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
