Responsibilities
Metabolic and Abdominal Wall Reconstructive Surgery (MARS) is seeking a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to work as part of a multidisciplinary team for surgical patients who are undergoing a bariatric and hernia procedures. This is a dynamic, busy surgical practice renowned for excellence, innovation and performing complex procedures. NP/PAs are valued members within MARS Division and teamwork is essential to meeting the needs of the patients for whom we provide care.
Metabolic and Abdominal Wall Reconstructive Surgery has 4 surgeons, and 2 NP/PAs that support the clinic. We are looking to add an Operating room, first assist to the NP/PA practice. This advanced practice provider would be an integral part of the operating room team and progress to working with the division surgeons . This individual would have the opportunity to participate in the education of surgical residents and fellows as part of their role following training. Our team-based approach includes partnership with surgeons, nurses, surgical residents/fellows, and operating room staff.
The provider will perform comprehensive assessments of same day surgical patients including pre-operative management, intraoperative first assist to the surgeon for open, minimally invasive, and robotic assisted cases, and post-operative same day dismissals.
We require a NP/PA with operating room experience. PA’s with general surgery training as part of their education or an NP applicant with first assistant certification or at least 1 year of operating room experience.
Qualifications
Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN license and certification as an FNP, ACNP or ANP.
Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.
Must be eligible for DEA registration. First assist/OR experience required.
Additional Qualifications
Completion of BLS course required and ACLS preferred. One to two years of clinical and/or surgical experience preferred, but not required. Consultant specific training will be provided.
First Assistant certification for nurse practitioners is preferred prior to job acceptance if not currently certified, the Metabolic and Abdominal Wall Reconstructive Surgery will reimburse the First Assistant Certification within the first 2 years of employment in this role.
Ability to problem-solve, work independently, and assume responsibility for patient interaction. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for effective interactions with patients, family members, and colleagues in multiple disciplines.
