Hennepin Healthcare has a full-time position open in our Center for Wound Healing for an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant. This position works closely with Podiatric Surgery along with other disciplines providing care to individuals with complicated wounds. 80% of your time will be spent in the Center for Wound Healing working with primary chronic below the knee wounds though the NP may also see wounds from head-to-toe. You will work side by side with many specialties including hyperbaric oxygen therapy. 20% of your time will be with the care of sacral pressure injuries in our Surgery Clinic. You will be closely collaborating with the physical therapy staff. There are occasional in-patient consultations as well as oversight of new referrals.
This is a 1.0 FTE position with hours from 8AM-4:30PM Monday through Friday without call, Holidays, or weekends.
  • Assist in management of chronic wounds in the Center for Wound Healing. Schedule evaluations, wound evaluation and dressing changes, assessment of wound healing
  • Manage chronic and some acute wounds with concentration on podiatry patients but wound care from head to toe is included
  • Manage and treat patients two half days per week with sacral pressure injuries in our Surgery Clinic along with a physical therapist
  • Conduct comprehensive and interval physical assessments of patients
  • Order and interpret appropriate labs, radiological studies and other tests per established criteria and monitor scheduling of patients for special tests
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary team in providing superior patient care
  • Perform common procedures to include debridement of wounds; application of grafts; dressing changes; negative pressure therapy and referring to collaborating specialties
  • Assist in determining appropriateness of referrals
  • Responsible for completing E-Consults to Wound Healing Center
  • Limited in-patient consultations as requested and making sure established patients admitted have continued wound care
  • Assist in ordering appropriate wound care supplies for patients
  • There are NO ostomy or burn patients and there is no operating time in this position

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies from an accredited program
  • NP candidates: Current license (APRN) to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Minnesota
  • NP candidates: must have certification by an agency authorized to certify professional nurses in advanced practice
  • Minimum of 1+ years as a Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant. Exception would be made if extensive wound care experience as an RN
  • BLS certified
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Wound experience as an APP
  • Wound Certification (not mandatory but must be willing to obtain once hired)
  • A genuine interest in wound care and working with chronic wounds
  • Self-starter; creative in seeking out opportunities for improved delivery of care in addition to personal growth
  • Ability to work independently but also collaborative with multiple disciplines
  • Interest in working in a resident-based hospital although you will be working independently
  • Flexibility and collaborative attitude
  • Dependable, confident, and organized
