Full Job Description
Under the direction of the Supervising Physician, the Nurse Practitioner (NP)/Physician Assistant (PA) functions in an advanced clinical role that provides medical care to patients of varying types and acuity in an Interventional Pain Management Clinic. The NP/PA will learn and practice advanced interventional pain treatment techniques to diagnose and care for patients dealing with chronic pain.
Specific Responsibilities
- Conducts patient exams and assists in communicating diagnoses and treatment plans for chronic pain.
- Collaboratively works with other providers and supporting staff
- Follows treatment plan and consults with physician on changes in patient care.
- Maintains a timely schedule and patient flow.
- Responds to patient inquiries and provides counseling after consultation with the physician or staff members. Directly assists with designing and implementing interventional and multidisciplinary treatment plans per orders/medical protocol of the practice administrator, nurse manager and/or physician.
- Prepares equipment and supplies for procedures. Performs procedures according to authorization and insurance requirements.
- Provides patient education according to treatment plan and instructs in collection of samples and testing.
- Manages assigned tasks and prescription refills on electronic medical record (EMR) system. Answers questions regarding patient appointments, testing, and care.
- Maintains accurate and up to date patient information in the EMR. Schedules, coordinates, and reschedules appointments. Relays necessary messages to staff and patients.
- Preserves and protects patient and client confidentiality in all situations and with all documentation.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Committed to continuous improvement of the patient experience which includes patient safety, quality of care, and excellent service.
- Attends staff meetings and required trainings.
- Performs other duties as directed by Physicians and management.
Qualifications
- Understands the importance of maintaining confidentiality; able to maintain confidentiality under HIPAA.
- Exercises a high degree of diplomacy and tact; excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills; cultural sensitivity and demonstrate ability to work with diverse groups of people.
- Demonstrates advanced communication skills; able to effectively relate via telephone, telemedicine, and in person to serve the needs of the clinics patients/clients/visitor in a manner that is efficient and productive.
- Works well under pressure with minimal supervision. Proven flexibility and willingness to handle a variety of tasks.
- Adaptive to the ever-changing healthcare environment
Education /Certification/Registration
- Board Certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB), hold an active DEA license. Board Certified PA-C for Physician Assistant
- Must possess a valid, unrestricted license.
- Minimum of one year of full-time inpatient /outpatient experience
- Must maintain BLS/CPR/ACLS certifications and licensure in the state of Michigan.
Physical Requirements: Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone. Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone. Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens. Other: Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting, with some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift. Possible exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic and/or procedure room environment.
