Full Job Description
- As a member of the healthcare team, is responsible for providing advanced assessment, differential diagnosis, clinical decision making and initiation of treatment in collaboration with the attending Cardiac, Vascular and Thoracic surgeons.
- Clinical activities are authorized and performed under the supervision but not necessarily in the presence of a physician member of the medical staff. Prescriptive authority is a delegated privilege under the collaborating physician.
- Assists pre-, intra, and post-care of all cardiac and thoracic patients. Prepares and records patient histories, performs rounds and physical examinations, records discharge summaries, assists in all surgical procedures, performs endoscope vein and radial artery harvesting intra-operatively and formulates post-operative treatment plans for patients.
- Specific procedures within the specialty are individually credentialed, based on background training and experience.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Requires a Bachelors Degree; completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant or Surgeon’s Assistant program.
- Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistant (NCCPA)
- Current basic and advanced cardiac life support (BLS / ACLS) certification.
- Cardiothoracic and vascular critical care or surgical experience is preferred.
- 1 year of previous First Assist experience
- Requires good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills as well as organizational skills, familiarity with computers, and excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to react to crisis situations quickly and effectively using department protocols and guidelines.
