Job Posting Description
This Physician Assistant will be responsible for:
- Providing clinical support to the Department of General Surgery. Primary support responsibilities include treating patients in the outpatient clinic, performing inpatient consultations, and assisting in the operating room as needed.
- Providing comprehensive healthcare services in the department of surgery by ordering and interpreting laboratory and diagnostic tests
- Diagnosing and managing children/adults with disorders requiring surgical care in collaboration with the attending physician.
- Documenting patient assessment, history, physical, diagnoses and care plan.
- Assisting with phone triage of numerous outpatient General Surgery patients & identifying the need for consultation with their pediatrician, specialists or other healthcare professionals
- Performing minor procedures in the office setting such as suture/staple removal, gastrostomy tube exchange, silver nitrate application to granulomas and potentially removal of drains, lines and tubes.
- Providing wound care including incision and drainage of superficial abscesses/infected wounds, debridement of infected wounds and placement of VAC dressings.
- Initiating and adjusting patient monitors and therapeutic equipment in accordance with approved standards of care as directed.
- May support the Pilonidal Care Program and Hidradenitis Program, which includes performing minor procedures in the office setting including: laser hair removal, incision and drainage of abscesses and suturing openings via a pit picking procedure.
- Formulating health care plans and providing educational teachings to patients and families
- Working 40 hours per week, either five 8 hour shifts (preferred) or four 10 hour shifts Monday through Friday. Position will be based out of Boston but could require regular travel to the Waltham location monthly.
To qualify, you must have:
- A Master’s degree from a PA program
- A current Massachusetts PA license
- The ability to work in collaboration with physicians, nurses, mid-level providers and ambulatory staff is essential.
- Analytical skills to resolve highly complex problems requiring the application of clinical, scientific or technical principles, theories and concepts and in-depth, cross-functional experience-based knowledge.
- Communication skills to effectively deal with conflicting views or issues and mediate fair solutions and well-developed writing skills.
