Full Job Description

Indiana University Health’s Urology Gender Health team is hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our team in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Job Details:

  • Full-time, Day Shift
  • Monday-Friday, 8-hour shifts
  • No weekends or call
  • 50% inpatient 50% outpatient
  • Practice locations include University Hospital, Riley Children’s Health, and Eskenazi Hospital

Job Description:

  • Responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to diagnose and treat medical conditions, perform procedures, and educate patients and their families about ongoing health care needs.
  • This role requires a high level of autonomy and proficiency in clinical practice

Key Responsibilities:

  • Patient Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct thorough patient histories and physical examinations. Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work, uroflow, and imaging studies. Formulate differential diagnoses and develop treatment plans.
  • Patient Care and Management: Manage acute and chronic medical conditions in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Prescribe mediations, therapies, and other treatments. Perform medical procedures such as wound care, catheter placement, drain removal, etc.
  • Collaboration and Coordination: Work closely with physicians, specialties, and other healthcare team members to ensure comprehensive patient care. Coordinate patient referrals to specialist and other healthcare services as needed. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Patient Education and Counseling: Educate patients and their families on disease management, preventative care, and treatment plans. Provide counseling on lifestyle changes and self-care strategies to manage chronic conditions. Provide discharge education and teaching, including dilation teaching, catheter teaching, etc.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medical records. Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations and standards. Document all patient interactions, treatment plans, and outcomes in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Professional Development and Continuing Education: Stay current with medical advancements, treatment protocols, and healthcare regulations. Participate in continuing education activities. Maintain all required certifications and licenses.
  • Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of clinical protocols and guidelines. Monitor patient outcomes and use data to improve practice and patient care.

Qualifications:

  • Accepting BE/BC PAs, FNPs, and WHNP
  • The ideal candidate would be a practicing APP with background in Urology, Plastics of OBGYN or who has clinical experience interacting with transgender and gender non-confirming individuals.
  • 2 years of APP experience required
