Summary of Position

The successful candidate will fulfill the teaching, professional development and service obligations of a full-time, 220-day academic year appointment. This position is a .75 FTE in the Physician Assistant Program at the College in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of the Colorado Community College System and Red Rocks Community College. The position exists to provide instruction within the ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program. Participates in the day-to-day design, implementation, delivery and evaluation of the didactic and clinical education of physician assistant students according to ARC-PA standards. Functions as an ARC-PA mandated “principal faculty” member (including advising and assessment of students and participating in admissions). Teaches using traditional and alternative methods of instruction (computer aided instruction, interdisciplinary approaches, small group facilitation, self-paced, on-line, etc.). Maintains an appropriate teaching load and advising load for a physician assistant/graduate faculty member. Coordinate with other faculty in curriculum planning, development, delivery and review. Participates in program governance and assume program duties as needed. Performs specific administrative assignments and/or maintains a clinical load as outlined in the program annual faculty assignments.

This is a 12-month appointment.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction:

Teaches and facilitates day, evening, or weekend didactic courses and/or teach in any modality including in-person classroom-based courses, hybrid, remote, hyflex, concurrent, or online, and assists clinical team in site/preceptor development and maintenance (including site visits), ensuring that all courses meet the approved course outcomes and outlines. Instruction duties and responsibilities center on teaching excellence, which can include:

  • Learning and applying culturally responsive education and inclusive learning environments into classroom instruction and curriculum.
  • Demonstrating equity and inclusion skills that are measurable, student-focused, and support equity in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Active student engagement that empowers learners to think critically and achieve academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Robust instructional content that is thought-provoking, current, and relevant.
  • Meaningful assessment and timely feedback related to student progress in achieving learning outcomes.
  • Continuous improvement of teaching and learning through evidence-based practices, reflection, innovation, and collaboration; and other College priorities.
Service: Service includes fulfilling the mission and goals of the College outside of the classroom. These may include but are not limited to:

  • Departmental service, including curriculum coordination and development.
  • Advising and outreach.
  • Mentoring graduate level students in didactic and clinical advising and Capstone project.
  • Administrative assignments and committee work at a campus- level, college, or System-wide.

  • Sponsoring and participating in student activities or community service events related to the College and tied to personal professional goals and job responsibilities.
Professional development: These activities are a part of service and include:

  • Continuous improvement in teaching.
  • Best practices in higher education as related to college initiatives.
  • Maintains clinical expertise
  • Personal enrichment in higher education structure or leadership.
  • Professional Development: A commitment to ongoing professional development, including staying current with developments in the field, and participating in training opportunities, is important for maintaining excellence in teaching and mentoring.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • A relevant master’s degree from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate of accredited physician assistant program with current NCCPA certification.
  • At least three years of clinical practice.

  • Commitment to the mission and goals of the program.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Primary care clinical experience.
  • Teaching experience in a PA program or medical school or demonstration of previous student mentoring or precepting
Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

  • Ability to work from campus (primarily our Arvada campus with possible occasional hours at the Lakewood campus and in the community, such as outreach events, as needed).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and typically underrepresented groups.
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to teach students using traditional and alternative methods of instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate technology into the classroom where appropriate.
  • Knowledge of computer applications.
  • Interpersonal, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of instructional objectives and course development techniques.
  • Skills with managing, preparing, and delivering courses in the classroom and in the field.
  • Ability to give and receive oral and written instructions and procedures.
Physical & Cognitive Demands:The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position:

  • Constantly uses a computer and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
  • Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
  • The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally moves, positions, and transports classroom and office equipment and supplies weighing up to 10 lbs.
