Full Job Description

In collaboration with the supervising physician and the administrative supervisor, the Physician Assistant cares for patients receiving treatment for breast cancer. The PA provides clinical guidance for patients receiving systemic therapy for head and neck malignancies including management of treatment toxicities, management of oncologic emergencies, symptom management, care coordination, assistance with triage, and other duties as assigned. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Department Description

Required Qualifications

Physician Assistant

  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a Physician Assistant in a medical oncology setting or successful completion of a one-year comprehensive oncology APP fellowship program.
  • Recent experience working with clinical trials patients.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.

Sr. Physician Assistant

  • Five (5) years recent Physician Assistant experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year experience as a Physician Assistant in a medical oncology setting.
  • Recent experience working with clinical trials patients.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Must be able to document competent performance of the skills required to perform in the role described.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, professional, computer and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse professional and patient population.
  • Ability to satisfactorily perform job duties as defined in the job duties/ functions.
  • Demonstrated excellence in the following areas: clinical practice, communication, clinical case management, leadership/problem identification/resolution, and teaching.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum three (3) years of recent experience as a Physician Assistant.
  • Experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Experience working with Breast Medical Oncology patients.

License/Certification

  • Must hold an active and current California Physician Assistant License (PA).
  • California driver’s license (CDL) if required for position.
  • Must hold current national board certification by first day of work and maintain.
  • Must hold an active and transferable DEA license to California and have evidence of transfer by 90th day of clinical practice. (It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer).
  • Must have completed an AAPA recognized graduate master’s degree program as a physician assistant.
  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through the credentialing process by first clinical day.
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement.

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
