Responsibilities:
- Neurocritical care is a subspecialty of neurology that treats acute neurological emergencies and requires advanced knowledge of both neurology and critical care; thus applicant must have advanced expertise in the standard practices of neurocritical care. Required

- Ability to exercise diplomacy and flexibility in interacting with doctors, nurses, other paramedical personnel, administrators, emergency and law enforcement Officers. Required
- Skill at clearly communicating medical information to broad variety of people, both in person and on the telephone. Required

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the health system. Required
- Advanced knowledge of what comprises the medical history and skill in the history-taking Process, including time allowance to carry these out. Advanced knowledge of when specific diagnostic tests are indicated according to written protocol. Required
- Skill in performing diagnostic tests according to protocol. Required
- Advanced skill to read medical instruments, editing data for errors and making necessary corrections of treatment modalities. Required
- Advanced skill to operate specialized medical equipment and be trained in new medical equipment and procedures, e.g., intracranial pressure monitoring devices, central venous pressure monitors, neuroelectrophysiological machines, Pulmonary respirators, cardioverter or cardiac defibrillator (capacitor discharge unit), Transducer systems, digital read-out equipment and medical computer systems. Required
- Ability to perform invasive medical procedures including central venous catheter placement, arterial line placement, lumbar punctures. Advanced knowledge in understanding indications and complications and monitoring for them. Required
- Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes. Required
- Applicants are expected to meet the legal requirements to practice as a PA in the State of California. Required
- Ability to provide teaching/education activities to broad range of people including fellows, residents, medical students, and community members Required
Qualifications:
- Licensure through the California Physician Assistant Board as a physician assistant.
- Applicant must have completed a physician assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA).
- Must have a National Provider Identifier (NPI), or obtain an NPI, prior to employment start date and meet current Medicare requirements for billing.
- Applicant must hold a current DEA Registration with schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4 and 5 and State issued prescribing authority (if applicable).
- Evidence of completion of Controlled Substances Education Course that meets requirements pursuant to California Code of Regulations Sections 1399.610 and 1399.612. PAs who have completed a one-time Controlled Substances Education Course may order or furnish a Schedule II drug pursuant to the Practice Agreement without patient-specific advance approval.
- National board certification by the NCCPA at the time of initial appointment.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification from an AHA approved course.
- Initial Applicant must provide documentation of provision of care (# and type of cases/procedures performed) during the past 24 months, representative of the scope and complexity of the privileges requested.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in neurocritical care or related field
- Experience in the ICU, preferably with Neurology and Neurosurgical patients.
