Summary
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Radiology team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive direct and indirect patient care in the outpatient setting, focusing on the care related to Radiology services.
The Radiology PA/NP will provide support to the Radiology practice by:
- assist in reviewing ultrasound images and preparing ultrasound reports under the supervision of a radiologist.
- actively overseeing the administration of contrast media during medical imaging procedures, ensuring patient safety by monitoring for potential adverse reactions, and being immediately available to intervene, if necessary, while possessing the necessary training to recognize and manage contrast-related complications.
- monitoring and facilitating appointments for follow-up studies recommended by the radiologists in their reports.
Responsibilities
- review and analyze ultrasound images and results to identify key clinical findings.
- draft preliminary ultrasound reports based on image findings and clinical context, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- collaborate with technologist and radiologists to ensure proper interpretation and reporting of ultrasound results.
- maintain thorough knowledge of anatomy and pathology to accurately support report creation.
- ensure that reports comply with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards.
- document all clinical interactions, findings, and procedures in the appropriate medical records systems.
- assist in ongoing education and training regarding ultrasound techniques and report preparation standards.
- maintain a strong focus on patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in all aspects of reporting.
- thoroughly review patient medical history, allergies, and current medications to identify potential risks associated with contrast administration.
- actively observe patients for signs and symptoms of potential contrast reactions, such as hives, nausea, or difficulty breathing, and be prepared to initiate immediate interventions.
- initiate appropriate emergency response protocols in case of a severe contrast reaction, including administering emergency medications like epinephrine, as per facility guidelines.
- maintain clear communication with the supervising radiologist, informing them of any patient concerns or potential complications during the procedure.
- accurately document all aspects of the contrast administration process, including patient information, contrast type and dosage, and any adverse reactions observed.
- review radiology reports to monitor need for patient follow up exams. Help facilitate with referring physician’s appointments for follow-up studies recommended by the radiologists.
Requirements
Physician Assistant:
- Current New York State Physician Assistant licensure required.
- National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification required.
Nurse Practitioner:
- Current New York State Nurse Practitioner licensure required.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) required.
Current Advance Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
