GENERAL SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Physician Assistant provides comprehensive primary care to mentally ill patients at Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, which is an inpatient psychiatric facility. Acts as a member of the clinical team and works collaboratively with other team members including a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care. Follows evidenced-based approaches. Provides medical services collaboratively with Supervising Physician. Reports to the Director of Medicine and to the Facility Medical Director.
Responsibilities:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct primary care and preventative services. Develops therapeutic plans of care for prevention, management, and maintenance of good health for patients. Provides health education and counseling to patients.
- Provides care for Acute and Chronic illness, which includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of illness. Follows established practice standards and current evidence-based clinical practices and guidelines as well as policies of Worcester Recovery Center and Hospital, DMH, & UMMS as appropriate.
- Adheres to established protocols and responds to medical emergencies.
- Consults with supervising physician and refers patients with more complex/dynamic problems to subspecialty care, as appropriate.
- Utilizes effective communication and promotes a culture of respect.
- Attends trainings, weekly Provider and Team meetings, and collaborates on practice, administrative, and quality improvement projects, as appropriate.
- Prepare weekly encounter forms and quarterly time studies.
- Participate in case reviews.
- Provide documentation of admission and annual evaluations which meet the standards of The Joint Commission, DMH, and the Department of Medicine at WSH.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of an accredited college/university Physician Assistant program
- Board certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
- Current, unrestricted licensure as a physician assistant in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
- Must have or be able to obtain Federal DEA Registration and be eligible to participate in both Medicare and Medicaid
- Must have or be able to obtain Massachusetts Controlled Substance Certificate
